It's been far to long since I've posted. This one is not meant to be cute, clever, or any of that. I just need a place to record my feelings so that Savannah will read them one day, and not have to dig into my journals-- (I have decided that all my children will receive journals for Christmas, and I will write in them until they can do it themselves- Pauline, my late mother-in-law did this for her children and I would like to follow that tradition).
Savannah is in a show choir group that my friend Elizabeth Little teaches. I signed Savannah up because I know Elizabeth is such a kind, talented, good person. I had no idea what a great effect this little class would have on Savannah. There are moments in life when I've felt a glimpse into someone's soul, and today I felt Him teach me about my daughter, who really is His daughter. I felt humbled by the magnitude of her spirit, and amazed at what she has the possibility to become. I know that not any of His children are favored or more special that any others. I know that he loves us equally, I just saw some of the specific divinity within her today.
As she performed, I had to mask my face a bit because I felt the choke in my throat that wanted to let a deluge out of my eyes. I just felt so darn proud of her. As she sang, danced, and recited her poem, I could see that she really glows when she performs. She memorized her part on her own. I tried to help, but she wanted to do it by herself, and learned it perfectly. Her mind is amazing to me. I sincerely believe that she has the ability to do whatever she wants in life. She sets her mind to things and then is able to do them. She's proven that to me many, many times. At such a young age, she is diligent and sets her mind to do the things she wants to do. She learned simple algebra in preschool!!!
She performed like a star- at least I thought so. She danced perfectly on beat, and beamed as she twirled. She smiled, and was so incredibly cute. I am so proud of her.
One more thing about her today... Last night at Family Home Evening, each person in our family got an assignment to be an "elf" for another person in our family. She and Owen have each other, and yes, that one was planned an deliberate- due to the sibling fights that happen around here daily.
This afternoon Savannah was cutting green construction paper like crazy. I asked what she was doing. She said that because she is Owen's "elf" she was making him a racetrack. I thought, "okay, hmmm, we'll see how this turns out." A few minutes later, I was totally surprised. She had totally constructed a road for Owen's cars all throughout the kitchen, and had drawn on big pieces of paper places for the cars to stop- such as a grocery store, a bakery, a park-- and she had props at each one. She and Owen spent hours playing on this construction paper city. She did every bit of the work, and the idea was 100% her own. Owen totally loved it. I know that she learned a bit of the joy of service. Sadly, for the rest of us, she was the only person in out family who actually did their "elf work" today. What a sweet little thing.
Anyway, Savannah, I hope you read this one day, and know that you were given many talents from our Heavenly Father. He blessed you with a very keen and sharp mind, with creativity galore, with the ability to perform well in front of others, with a heart that naturally serves others and wants to make others happy. I love you more than you know, and somehow Heavenly Father loves you even more than that. As you go through life, know that you truly, truly are loved so very much.
Love,
Mom
